Overview
Locum pharmacists regularly negotiate aspects of their working lives, including rates, working conditions, workload expectations, and professional boundaries, often without consistent support or clear frameworks.
During this programme, participants will:
- Develop a clear understanding of negotiation in a professional context
- Explore their own negotiating style and confidence
- Recognise the factors that influence bargaining power in locum practice
- Build a practical ‘toolkit’ of strategies to support effective negotiation
- Apply learning through reflection and self-directed activities.
The programme emphasises both individual capability and the wider context in which locum pharmacists operate, encouraging a considered and confident approach to negotiating in practice.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
- Define negotiation in a professional context, including understanding alternatives and outcomes
- Identify factors that influence bargaining power, including market conditions, workplace dynamics, and individual circumstances
- Evaluate their own negotiation style and approach, recognising strengths and areas for development
- Apply practical negotiation techniques to common locum scenarios, such as agreeing rates, managing workload, and setting professional boundaries
- Develop and implement a personal action plan, supported by reflective learning and continued development.
