PDA Union West England and Wales Regional Committee

Meet the PDA Union members who serve on the West and Wales Regional Committee:

Anne Davies (nec Regional Representative, wALES AND WEST)

I qualified as a pharmacist in 1990 and have worked in community practice since then, mainly as an employee. I first joined the PDA when I saw how colleagues had been helped by the PDA support team. I continue to be involved with the PDA as I strongly believe in what the association stands for, i.e. looking after the interests of individual pharmacists. This is especially important as workplace pressures continue to increase, and I believe in the PDA’s commitment to helping to improve patient safety and care through the improvement of working conditions.

Anne is part of the PDA Union Boots Reps Network.

Celine Hogben (Primary Care Clinical Pharmacist, Jersey, Channel Islands)

I qualified as a pharmacist in 2019 and began my career  as a rotational pharmacist at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, gaining experience across multiple hospital specialties. In 2020, I returned to Jersey to work as a clinical pharmacist at Jersey General Hospital before transitioning into primary care in 2023 as the first pharmacist employed by a GP practice on the island. That same year, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice and qualified as an independent prescriber. I have also locumed in community pharmacies in both Jersey and the UK, giving me a broad understanding of the realities of pharmacy practice across different healthcare settings.

I am committed to giving pharmacists in the Channel Islands a stronger voice. I want to represent local perspectives at a national level, strengthen engagement with the PDA, and help ensure that pharmacists working in smaller or less visible healthcare settings are heard and supported.

Helen Lewis (Chair of the comittee, wales)

I’ve been a community pharmacist for over 30 years and have seen many positive changes to the profession in that time. I joined the PDA Union to ensure I had independent support in the workplace, and then I became a Trade Union Rep to support and empower colleagues who need their voices heard.

I also support the PDA Union by delivering professional risk management workshops to pharmacy students with the aim of empowering the next generation.

Jyoti Saini (Primary Care, Walsall)

I qualified in 1997 having worked in community pharmacy, academia and have over 25 years experience in Primary Care as well as working as an active Independent Prescriber. I am aware of the pressures that can be placed on clinical pharmacists within General Practice and the demands whilst working within a multidisciplinary team.

As the role of the pharmacist has evolved more of us are moving into PCN, INTs and ICB positions, I want to support members in being confident to work within their scope of competence as well as being able to work in a safe environment to enhance patient safety.

I have been a PDA Union member for many years and additionally, I am a workplace PDA Union representative. I would like to support my colleagues within this sector to ensure we are fully represented and to encourage those that are not part of the union, to consider the benefits of being a member of the PDA Union.

Martin Astbury (Community pharmacist, PDA Regional Representative for Wales, West England and Channel Isles)

Community pharmacist with over 35 years experience having worked as an employee and as a locum. Vast experience in pharmacy law and governance. Over 20 years experience as a charity trustee.

Michal Lamparski (Hospital pharmacist, North Devon)

I qualified as a pharmacist in Poland. I worked as a community pharmacist both there and in community pharmacy in the UK. I now worked in the NHS in North Devon. I am an IP in respiratory medicine and have an Advanced Clinical Practice MSc degree specialising in respiratory care. I am passionate about the NHS and a great advocate of advanced clinical practice pharmacists.

Nicola Rees (community pharmacist, PDA National Representative)

I have been a community pharmacist for over 25 years and a member of the PDA Union since 2012. I currently serve as a National Representative and I serve as the Secretary of the PDA Union Network at Boots where I play a key role in leading national negotiations on pharmacists’ pay, ensuring fair and meaningful improvements to salary and working conditions. Throughout my career, I have been committed to improving workplace conditions, supporting colleagues, and advocating for the profession. I am passionate about advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the profession and serve as a committee member of the National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP).

Onisodemuya Okeke (clinical commissioning pharmacist, PDA Regional Representative for Wales, West England and Channel Isles)

I am a pharmacist with experience across both community and hospital sectors. My primary role is within the acute hospital sector, where I work as a clinical commissioning pharmacist and specialist pharmacist for diabetes and endocrinology- utilising my independent prescribing qualification. Alongside this, I continue to undertake locum work in community pharmacy, which helps me stay connected and informed about any developments and challenges across the wider pharmacy profession.

My involvement with the PDA Union reflects my commitment to supporting and representing pharmacists across all areas of practice. Through this role, I hope to contribute to strengthening the voice of pharmacists and supporting colleagues as the pharmacy profession continues to evolve.

Richard Evans (Locum Pharmacist, West Wales)

I have been a pharmacist for over 40 years, the last 12 years as a locum in the community. I wanted to get involved with the PDA Union so that I could contribute to its work of representing all pharmacists, whichever sector of the profession they work in.

Tina Smith (Pharmacist manager, PDA Regional Representative for Wales and West England)

Pharmacist manager for Knights Pharmacy, I want to see change within the company.
